4 Day Weekend!

So after taking it VERY easy on my foot, and "thinking" it was all getting SO much better, I decided to run longer yesterday (6.5 miles). My foot felt "ok" for the run but got a bit painful last night.

So, being the smart runner I am, I got up this morning and met my running buddy at 5:30 this morning for another run. SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Well, as you could guess, it's hurting quite a bit again now!

Here is the REAL issue... I am ADDICTED!

Seriously, I am. and so are you.

If I take more than a day or two off running, I sit around feeling fat, sluggish and like a real bum. Stop laughing, SO DO YOU! You know you do!

I take a day off to lift weights, and after I am finished, want SO badly to head out for a run too! Nothing else makes me feel this way.

So what to do? I have NO idea!!

The best I think I can hope for is to continue to struggle with this, knowing I need to take a few days off and not run 24X7. I KNOW lifting is good for me, maybe JUST as good as running. I KNOW taking a day off here and there is good for me, maybe better than running so often!

It's not like any of this is new to me. I've been doing this for 25 years. It's just that the older I get, the louder my body screams at me!

So, unless one of you has the magic answer for me, I'll just continue to try to talk myself into doing what I know is best for me, and sit down at the computer every now and then and vent.

Everyone have a PERFECT Thanksgiving!!

Peace.....

Kevin you crack me up! I can SO relate to this. You know what to do so I won't tell you.. TAKE TIME OFF RUNNING! Go crazy on the elliptical! Love that exercise bike! Poolrunning! And I do know it's nothing like the real thing.. But it'll stop your behind from spreading everywhere while you wait for your %$&*O foot to heal..

Vent away!

Maybe each time you get done lifting, swimming, etc. you should go directly to Connor and hang with that gorgeous guy. I would certainly pick him over running! HA!

Gobble gobble.

I know what you mean. I've been trying to take a break from running this month prior to starting to ramp up my mileage in December and then start training for a half marathon in January. I've been lifting and doing some exercise videos and it's just not the same as running. There's just no substitute.

Have you tried road cycling? As a longtime runner, I must say that it is quite exciting and addicting, esp. if you ride with others in a group or paceline. And it gives you a great workout without beating up your body as much as running. In fact, I have to say that I probably like cycling as much if not more than running now!

Strength training? I hate it. So I only do it if I have to (so far I haven't had to).

I like to run! I miss it when I cannot run.

I feel for you, buddy!

Can you trick yourself on an elliptical and pretend it's running? Can you get to a heated or indoor pool and do water-running?

That's all I've got.

And yes, I care too. I don't blame ya.
